What is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine is a physician and patient encounter that occurs remotely through a visual/audio connection. It is utilized for the purpose of diagnosing, monitoring, and treating patients from a distance.
The same standard of care used in physical encounters at doctor's offices is applied to Telemedicine. Telemedicine meets the existing legal and professional obligations that have been laid out by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. This innovative service also includes preventative, promotive, and curative care delivery.
Telemedicine makes it possible for families to get immediate access to our trusted pediatricians that otherwise might not be available to them. For example, pediatric specialists practising in Toronto can now use Telemedicine to help children that live in remote communities hundreds of kilometres away. Telemedicine has made it possible for healthcare professionals to address your concerns in the safest way possible amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Telemedicine FAQ's
Virtual Care refers to all forms of communication (email, audio, text message, etc.) between patients and health care providers (physician, nurse, speech therapy psychologist, etc.). Telemedicine is a dedicated visual/audio connection that takes place between patients and physicians specifically.
Studies have shown that Virtual Care and Telemedicine are widely accepted by patients in Canada. A 2018 survey conducted by the Canadian Medical Association found that seven in ten people reported that they would take the opportunity to have a virtual doctor's visit. Another survey conducted by Canada Health Infoway found that 41% of Canadians would like to have the opportunity to participate in video visits with their health care provider.
NO, not all pediatric conditions can be evaluated online. Good virtual care platforms are meant to work with your pediatrician or family doctor. Additionally, if your child requires a physical exam or in-person follow-up care, it is expected that you will follow these instructions.
Proceed to the nearest ER if your child's symptoms worsen while you're waiting in the digital waiting room.
